A cold Christmas morning wouldn’t be complete without a big cup of something hot to warm you right up. My go to on a chilly day is hot chocolate.
Something about it reminds me of my childhood/adolescence and learning how to ski. After many falls in the powdery cold snow, a hot chocolate break in the ski lodge is so comforting and a nice reward for good effort on the slopes. I may not be near snow covered mountains (and God only knows the disaster I would be on skies now) but we recently had our first cold snap and freezing temperatures here in Texas. Of course my preferred method of instant warmth was hot chocolate.
I tickled pink when I discovered this recipe for White Hot Chocolate. This version of hot chocolate has beautiful flavors that taste and smell just like Christmas. And who would have ever thought to put white chocolate in their hot chocolate?!?
White Hot Chocolate
Prep Time: 5 minutes Cook Time: 5 minutes Serves 4-5
3 cups milk
3/4 cup vanilla-flavor baking pieces or vanilla-flavor candy coating, chopped
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
Combine 1 cup of the milk, vanilla baking pieces or chopped candy coating, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a medium saucepan; whisk over low heat until vanilla baking pieces is melted.
Add remaining milk. Whisk until heated through. Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla and almond extract.
Using caution, add milk/chocolate mixture to a blender and blend until frothy.
Serve warm in cups or mugs; top with slivers of vanilla-flavor candy coating and sprinkle with additional cinnamon, if desired.
