With only five ingredients, this Slow Cooker Lemon Feta Chicken is perfect for a busy week night! Pair this easy chicken recipe with rice and peas and dinner is done!
Sometimes it’s hard working in the food world. It seems like everyone these days are self proclaimed foodies and everyone knows everything there is to know about food or at least has an opinion. And it seems like everyone wants every meal to be over the top, or at least Instagram worthy.
I’ve excitedly tried new restaurants that *everyone* is raving about only to be disappointed because the food is only sub par and cost just WAY too much.
Yeah, I know what you all are thinking… how can I be a food expert if I’m not willing to try some crazy food combination or can’t enjoy the hottest new restaurant or food trend.
But the truth is, sometimes less really is more.
That’s why I chuckle when the top recipes or most popular food trends are the ones that are BAM! in your face with like a million ingredients and hours of work.
Because what I hear most people say, real life friends and my blog readers, is that when it comes to you all actually cooking, you want simpler meals, with fewer ingredients and less prep time at the least number of dirty dishes involved.
And while we all like to indulge every once in awhile and will drool over food pics all.day.long, that our daily lives don’t allow us the time, energy or expensive grocery bills to concoct such lavish meals.
In real life, not in our food dreams where calories don’t count and we have all the free time in the world, slow cooker, five ingredient dinners are wining.
Today’s recipe should be filed under “this is real life and I have to get a healthy dinner on the table when I have a super busy day” section of your recipe box. It is made in the slow cooker (check), has only five ingredients, all of which are pantry staples (check) and yet tastes pretty amazing (double check).
Pair it with some super simple sides (like the ones I have suggested below) and you have an optimal weeknight dinner, that may not win over restaurant critics, but will please every Mom worldwide! 🙂
These Slow Cooker Lemon Feta Chicken Drumsticks, served with our favorite Lemon Rosemary Rice and Braised Peas and Onions, really is a staple dinner in our house. This recipe uses chicken drumsticks (chicken thighs would work as well), and therefore needs very little liquid since that cut of meat is naturally more juicy than say chicken cutlets.
These lemon drumsticks are juicy and flavorful; if you don’t believe me, just put this slow cooker meal to the test in your own home!

Slow Cooker Lemon Feta Chicken Drumsticks
Tangy and juicy chicken cooked to perfection in the slow cooker with just a few simple ingredients.
Ingredients
- 8 skinless chicken drumsticks
- ½ teaspoon each kosher salt and black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon dried oregano
- 1 lemon, juiced and zested
- --
- For Serving:
- 1/3 cup feta cheese, crumbled
- 2 cups cooked white, brown or cauliflower rice (or quinoa)
- 2 cups braised peas
Instructions
In a small bowl stir together salt, pepper, garlic powder, oregano, and lemon zest.
Pat chicken down with paper towels, to remove excess moisture. Sprinkle seasoning over chicken drumsticks and place chicken in an even layer in the slow cooker.
Zest lemon over chicken. Next, squeeze lemon juice over chicken and place lemon halves around chicken in slow cooker.
Cover and cook on high for 4 hours or on low for 6 hours; or until chicken is no longer pink and the meat begins to pull away from the bone, which is an internal temperature of 165°F.
Serve chicken over plain white rice mixed with Braised Peas and Onions and topped with freshly crumbled feta cheese.
Notes
Cooking Tip: Use a paper towel to help remove the skin from the chicken drumsticks. Simply wrap a paper towel around the skin on the drumstick and pull down, towards the joint, to rip the skin off.
