Who’s getting excited for Thanksgiving!?! These Slow Cooker Mashed Potatoes are perfect for the holidays, since the slow cooker will free up crucial stove top space and keep the mashed potatoes warm while waiting for dinner time. They are buttery, smooth and creamy, just like mashed potatoes should be! Comment “recipe” and we will DM it right to you! Or, grab the recipe on @kitchenconcoctions using the link in our profile-> https://www.kitchen-concoctions.com/2016/11/slow-cooker-mashed-potatoes/ —-

Wondering how big of a turkey to buy for Thanksgiving? Here’s our Thanksgiving Tip - we recommend calculating approximately 1.25 pounds per person. Remember, guests will not actually eat that much turkey as there is a lot of turkey, like bones, that is inedible. Since most people tend to fill up on side dishes, we feel like this will give you plenty of turkey for Thanksgiving dinner and some leftovers. Don’t want leftovers, opt for 1 pound per person. Or, want a lot of leftovers, go up to 1.5 pounds per person. Another tip! We recommend not cooking larger than an 18 pound turkey, as the larger the bird, the longer the cooking time and the potential of uneven cooking and a dry, tough bird. So, if you are hosting a larger crowd, consider cooking more than one turkey (maybe one smoked and one roasted) or serving an additional protein like ham. Or you could even add more side dishes to the menu! Got questions about cooking Thanksgiving dinner? Drop them below as we are happy to help! Stay tuned for more Thanksgiving recipes, tips and tricks over the next few weeks. And as always, you can find all our best Thanksgiving recipes on @kitchenconcoctions by clicking the link in our profile -> https://www.kitchen-concoctions.com/category/holiday-thanksgiving/ Or, comment “Thanksgiving” and we will DM them right to you! ——

Happy November! Active Thanksgiving beast mode. 😉 I’m still finalizing our Thanksgiving menu, but that isn’t keeping me from getting ready. I’m already starting to clean out and organize my freezer, pantry and fridge. While I do this, I’ll take inventory of pantry staples, specifically things we use a lot all holiday season long. Then each week until Thanksgiving, I’ll be adding a few Thanksgiving dinner essentials to my weekly grocery run. This helps ensure I’m not having to buy everything all at once and I can get things at the best price when they are on sale. These groceries are things I know I will need no matter what my final dinner menu will be. Think pecans, butter, chicken stock, flour, sugar, spices, chocolate chips, baking powder, paper goods, etc. Stay tuned for more Thanksgiving recipes, tips and tricks over the next few weeks. And as always, you can find all our best Thanksgiving recipes and tips on @kitchenconcoctions by clicking the link in our profile -> https://www.kitchen-concoctions.com/category/holiday-thanksgiving/ Or, comment “Thanksgiving” and we will DM them right to you! ——-

Comment “candy” and we will send you a list of over 60 ways to use up all that leftover Halloween candy! 🍫🍬 Whether you over bought and don’t have many trick or treaters, or, your neighbors are very generous and loaded up your littles with treats, here are some fun and practical ideas to keep all that extra Halloween candy from going to waste. 1. Save it to decorate gingerbread houses.
2. Create a candy message card for someone with an upcoming birthday.
3. Use it in a math lesson or science experiment.
4. Bake it into a recipe or use it to decorate cakes, cupcakes or cookies.
5. Use candy for “minute to win it games” at upcoming holiday get togethers.
6. Donate it to Treats for Troops. FYI, if stored properly, chocolate candy can stay fresh in the pantry for up to 6-12 months and in the freezer for 18-24 months. Hard candies, like mints and lollipops, can stay fresh in the pantry for 12-18 months. Other than just eating it, how do you use up leftover Halloween candy? Grab our detailed list on @kitchenconcoctions using the link in our profile: https://www.kitchen-concoctions.com/2025/10/what-to-do-with-leftover-halloween-candy/ ———

Yes, with the holiday baking season upon us, NOW is the time to replace your baking powder and baking soda. For best results in your favorite recipes, fresh baking powder and baking soda is essential. How often should you replace your baking powder and baking soda to maintain their potency? It is recommended that once opened, to replace baking powder every 6 months and baking soda (when used for baking) every 6 -12 months. If sealed, both will keep until the expiration date on the packaging. How to test if your baking powder is still good: Place a spoonful in a bowl. Add boiling water. If the mixture starts to bubble up right away, it is still good. How to test if your baking soda is still good: Place a spoonful in a bowl. Add vinegar. If the mixture starts to bubble up right away, it is still good. But wait! Even if the baking powder and baking soda is more than 6 months old and no longer good for baking, don’t throw it out. It could still be used for cleaning, science experiments and more. Now be honest, how old is your baking powder? 😉 ——

Apple picking this weekend? Save this post! Comment “apples” and we will send our complete guide right to you! 🍎🍏 Apple picking season is here and if you are wondering which apples are best for baking, we’ve got you covered! When looking for the best apples for baking, specifically apple pie, look for apples that are sweet, tart and most importantly hold their shape during baking. Best apples for baking:
Granny Smith
Braeburn
Honeycrisp For making applesauce or apple butter, you’ll want an apple that has a lot of flavor, is sweet, but is also tender to help them cook down into a sauce. Best apples for applesauce:
McIntosh
Ida Red
Golden Delicious
Fuji When adding apples to a savory dish, you’ll want one that holds its shape and isn’t overly sweet. Best apples for savory cooking:
Granny Smith
Gala
