Kids in the Kitchen: Cookie Burgers and Pie Fries

June 16, 2012

Before I get to today’s utterly adorable burger recipe (yes, a burger can be adorable!) I have to first apologize for not posting a burger recipe yesterday. I got home late last night and started working on the post but kept falling asleep at the computer and typing and re-typing the same thing. I knew I had to go to bed. And since today is kids in the kitchen day (a special series happening every Friday all summer long) I couldn’t share that burger recipe today. But stay tuned because the burger recipe I had planned on sharing yesterday was my favorite for the week (for overall flavor) and I will be sharing it tomorrow!

So on to today’s is my favorite burger recipe for cute! This is an easy “kids in the kitchen” burger recipe.

Cookie Burgers and Pie Fries!!!

I love how simple these are but yet they look too cute and adorable. These are so easy that the kids can handle them completely on their own. The Pie Fries are still easy, but do require adult supervision since they are cooked in the oven.

This fun and sweet twist on burgers and fries would be an awesome summer activity or could be saved for April to make as a funny, yet tasty, April fool’s joke!

Depending on what you can find at your local grocery store and what version you prefer, you can either make the larger Cookie Burgers or the smaller version. I have included ingredients for each version below, but the directions will remain the same.

For small burgers:

Vanilla wafers

Thin mint cookies/Keebler Grasshopper cookies

Red frosting (homemade or store bought)

Green frosting

For large burgers:

Pecan sandies cookies

Devil’s food cookies

Red frosting green (homemade or store bought)

Green frosting

Place rounded side of pecan sandies/vanilla wafer cookie on work area. On flat side of cookie place a small dot of frosting (to secure the other cookie on top). Place ‘burger’ (Devil’s Food/Thin Mint Cookie) on top of small dot of frosting.

Using a back and forth motion, drizzle green frosting back and forth on chocolate cookie to make ‘lettuce’. Squeeze a large dot of red frosting on top of green frosting to form ‘tomato’.

Top chocolate cookie and frosting with additional ‘bun’ (pecan sandies/vanilla wafer cookie) placing flat side down.
