For the past year I have gone back and forth on whether I wanted to do this type of blog post.
A blog post featuring real life photos of things other than food. Like what you would find on my Instagram feed, only all the photos that never made it on my Instagram feed… because I am a bad Instagramer or maybe because I thought they were too personal to share.
You see, the whole time I have blogged I have long struggled with how personal to get on here. Sure I have shared stories about family traditions, about career triumphs, personal losses and other rants and musings.
I like that I have a little piece of the world to just be me.
But I also like having a little bit of my life kept just to myself. This is my true real life personality. I like meeting people and not until further down the road that I share more personal stories. Like people are always shocked to find out that I was in choir in high school and middle school. I don’t know if this shocks them because I tend to be a more quite person or because when I sing karaoke I am horrible. But either way, yup I was in choir and even have VHS videos (that if there is a way to still play those) show me singing and dancing my heart away in my school’s variety shows!
So here I am. I am finally posting some tid bits from back in October that never made it on Instagram or this blog. Oh and that was another thing. Every month when I sat down to do a monthly recap, it was well into the next month and I thought it was way to late to blog about the previous month.
But oh well. Here it is November 12, and I am going to ‘Dish It Up’ about October’s happenings!
I kicked something off my bucket list in October. I finally went and ‘got lost’ in a corn maze. I have envisioned this day like for my entire life, and to say I was beyond giddy is an understatement. Of course I brought Eric with me and we made an entire day of it! (By the way, the weather was absolutely gorgeous that day.
In true Austin fashion (Austin is the live music capital of the world) this year’s corn maze was in honor of music legend Willie Nelson.
Every October, we make a big to do about picking out pumpkins for carving. Going to a pumpkin patch and picking out the best carving pumpkins. But my favorite pumpkins are the “We Be Littles” seriously labeling these itty bitty pumpkins “We Be Littles” just makes them even more cute. Oh and even though we bought carving pumpkins we didn’t get around to carving them. You have no idea how sad this made me.
Speaking of holiday decor, my Mom is obsessed. She always has been and always will be. There is even a long running joke in our house that the only thing my siblings and I will inherit is her collection of holiday decorations, specifically her collection of holiday houses. She has a huge collection of houses like this for every holiday, Halloween, Christmas, Easter, and these her “fall” houses.
I have mentioned before that I teach cooking classes. These are mostly to kids and this year they have been incredibly cute and sweet. Every class there has been at least one kid exclaiming what a great teacher I am and how much they love cooking because of me. I even got special notes (like this one) and a beautiful bouquet of flowers, which totally made my day!
I have been obsessed with baking as of late. Perfect for all of the holiday festivities popping up this time of year. Bad for my waste line. I seriously just want to bake (and eat my creations) all.day.long and lately just cookies. I’ve made these cookies multiple times the last few months and they went so fast at a recent get together that I have no photo proof they ever existed. I even teased back in October, when I shared my lasted decorated Nutter Butter Cookie that I have more versions to come (hello Christmas cookie exchanges).
Have I mentioned the beautiful weather we have had this fall here in Texas? While most of the world is freezing we have been a perfect 75 degrees most days. (Ironically while I sit and type this we are expected to get out first cold snap, with freezing temperatures. Oh and there was those two times it rained so much we had a few incidents of flooding, but other than that, perfect weather). This weather has produced the most beautiful sunsets and perfect hiking weather, to see views like this:
And with that, I think I have rambled on way too much today!
