This
fun twist on a classic gooey dessert, starts with a M&M’s®
Crispy Cookie crust and is topped with soft coconut, more M&M’s®
Crispy candies and crunchy pretzels!

Like
many, my high school days were filled with all kinds of highs and
lows. There were the good times… school trips to New York City,
learning to drive and finally getting my driver’s license (and a
“hand-me-down car”…. HELLO! Freedom!…. or so I thought!), fun
Friday nights spent with friends cheering at football games, first
jobs and just livin’ life.
But
high school wouldn’t be complete without all those awkward days too.
Like your first crush, or trying to “find yourself” and fit in.
To occasional fights with parents and learning that with freedom
comes more responsibility.

Recently,
when wondering the aisles of Walmart (since moving I am in there
pretty much every day picking up “lost” items), I saw a huge
display of M&M’s®, filled with every beloved M&M’s® flavor
including M&M’s® Crispy, which is back and comes in large bags, for sharing/baking, and individual
snack size bags that contain only 180 calories per serving!
Yes,
right then and there I was transformed back to high school,
specifically high lunch. You see, when M&M’s® Crispy first came
out, late 90’s, I was going through those awkward high school/teen
years. Seeing that package brought me right back to those days,
wandering through the cafeteria on the first day of school, wondering
if I had lunch with any of my friends. Heck, I would take lunch with
ANYONE I knew! LOL!

Luckily,
I always managed to find someone every year to sit with, and honestly, I
actually have a few great memories of those “dreaded” high school
lunch periods! Smile. One memory was visiting with my girlfriends
over what our latest crush was or making plans for the weekend. As we
laughed and giggled, like school girls do, we always shared a bag of
M&M’s® Crispy (you know because at the time they were the newest thing… and everyone was eating them… LOL!)! To celebrate those crazy high school days, I
couldn’t help but reminiscence and grab a big bag of M&M’s®
Crispy and transform them into a drool worthy dessert!

Not
only do those candies remind me of my high school days, so do those
classic Magic Bars, which I first learned about in Home Economics (is
that even around anymore??). These M&M’s® Crispy Cookie Magic
Bars not only have M&M’s® Crispy candies in the sugar cookie
crust, but they are topped with more M&M’s® Crispy, coconut and
pretzels for an added crunch and to help balance that sweetness!

Now
excuse me while I pour myself a big glass of milk (you’ll need it),
bite into one of these bars, and go back in time a bit!
What
reminds you of your high school days?

Prep
Time: 15 minutes Bake Time: 28-30 minutes Yields: 2 dozen bars
Gooey
cookie bars with a M&M’s® cookie crust and a crispy
coconut/pretzel topping.

Ingredients:
½
cup butter, room temperature
1
egg

1
(15.5 ounce) package sugar cookie mix
1
(9.90-ounce) package M&M’s®
Crispy

candies

1
cup sweetened coconut flakes

1
1/2 cups chopped pretzels

1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk

Directions:
Preheat
oven to 350 degrees F. Line a 9×13 inch baking dish with foil
and spray with non stick cooking spray. Set aside.

For crust:
Using an electric mixer, cream together butter and egg until light
and fluffy. Add cookie mix a little at a time until a soft dough is
formed. Fold in 1 cup of the M&M’s®
Crispy.

Press cookie dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan.

Top
cookie dough with coconut flakes, remaining M&M’s®
Crispy candies and chopped pretzels. Pour sweetened condensed milk
evenly over the top of the bars.

Bake
in preheated 350 degree oven for 28-30 minutes or until bars are
golden brown and set in the center. Allow bars to cool completely
before cutting. Once cooled, remove bars from pan by pulling up on
the excess foil. Cut into bars and serve. Bars can be stored in an
air tight container for 5-6 days.

Love
M&M’s®
as much as I do??
