Workout in a Jar with 50+ Workout Ideas!

January 19, 2016

Don’t get stuck in your day to day workout routine! Today I’ve partnered with goodnessknows® snack squares and I’m challenging you to change things up and do a little good for yourself by making a Workout in a Jar with 50+ Workout Ideas and add a little variety to your fitness regimen.

Workout in a Jar with 50+ Workout Ideas!

Ahh… can you believe that January is almost over!?! As with every part of my life, I can’t believe the first month of the new year has gone by so fast! But to look at things in a positive light, now is a great time to step back a reevaluate new years goals and make any changes to get back on track or maybe change focus.

For me, 2016 is all about getting stronger. I want to be not only stronger physically, but have stronger relationships with the people in my life, be a stronger, more organized blogger, be a stronger leader in my community, and more! Of course each one of these areas will be a work in progress and take on different challenges or have different smaller goals that will help me reach the overall bigger goal.

For many getting strong, or fit in the new year is a common goal or resolution. For me this means being consistent with working out. I love to go on walks (it is my way to deal with stress and clear my head), and take a brisk 30 minute walk at least once a day; but sometimes I want to take it up a notch and either do something else or just challenge myself in a new way with regards to being fit and active.

Over the years I have had various gym memberships and have gotten super into things like riding my bike, hiking and barre; but then I do each activity so much I get bored and just stop. So this year as I work to get stronger and be more active, I hope to try new things or just add variety to my workout routine.

To help me with this goal, I made a workout in a jar! The in a jar/popsicle stick tasks are nothing new. I have seen several versions of this concept for everything from household chores to date night, and decided to create one for workouts. The idea is that you decorate popsicle sticks in a variety of colors, and assign a different color a specific category and write corresponding tasks on the popsicle stick. For example, for my work out in a jar, I decorated several popsicle sticks in yellow and wrote different fitness classes on each stick. And then purple sticks are different gym workouts and so on. Then when you go to work out, choose a stick that fits into your day, like if you are headed to the gym, then pick a purple stick to determine what machine you use that day.

Not only do I use the popsicle stick workouts to help spice up my fitness routine, I also treat myself to a post workout snack or treat after the workout is done. This is often a banana with some nut butter or a green smoothie; but these “go to” snacks can get a little boring as well. So that is why I was excited to discover goodnessknows® snack squares at the checkout register when I ran a quick errand to Walmart the other day. These goodnessknows® snack squares are bite sized goodness packed with whole nuts, real fruit and a hint of chocolate; because completing an intense workout calls for a bite of chocolate. Right?!? Not only are these snack squares bite sized, they come in three different flavors, like goodnessknows® Cranberry, Almond, Dark Chocolate, goodnessknows® Apple, Almond & Peanut, Dark Chocolate and goodnessknows® Peach & Cherry, Almond, Dark Chocolate. With that kind of variety and delicious flavor there is no way you can get bored with this snack square; which is not only perfect for a post workout treat, but a great way to give yourself a break, enjoy life and help in your goodness to greatness journey!

Don’t get bored of your daily workout routine, change it up with this fun jar filled with different workouts!

Supplies:
Popsicle sticks
Paint or Washi Tape (in 3-4 colors/designs)
Permanent markers
Glass jar
Decorations (ribbon, tags, etc.)

Directions:
Using one paint color/design of washi tape, paint or wrap one end of eight to ten popsicle sticks, cutting away any excess tape.  Repeat decorating/painting process with additional paint/washi tape so that there are eight to ten color coded popsicle sticks in 3-4 colors.

After paint has dried (if using) and all popsicle sticks are decorated, assign a workout category to each color/design and use permanent marker to write corresponding workouts on each popsicle stick (see ideas below). For example, purple sticks are all gym workouts, yellow sticks are fitness classes, etc.

Using markers and washi tape, decorate a paper gift tag and tie tag around glass jar. Fill jar  with completed workout sticks. Each day draw a different popsicle stick and work your way to being strong!
