Normally I start my “Dishin’ It Up” series with “boy has it been a a busy month…..” but for once January was pretty slow (almost boring for my typical life) but I think secretly I kind of liked it! It was nice to have a few Texas style ‘snow days’ and just hang out and relax. I probably should have taken more advantage of it, considering life is about to get crazy again.
So instead of doing my normal “Dishin’ It Up” series where I recap things that happened in my life in the month of January that didn’t make it to Instagram, I decided to bore you instead with things I have been “obsessed” with for the month of January.
Looking for recipes and don’t care about any of this? I understand! So check out these taco recipes perfect for Taco Tuesday: Crispy Fish Tacos or Chili Lime Fish Tacos with Sweet Potato and Jicama Slaw

What I’ve been watching:
Saving Mr. Banks: I had some what of an idea what this movie was about going into it (the story of how the movie Mary Poppins came to be) but this movie did well at really telling the story; and yes there is a story. You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. You’ll cheer.
The Place Beyond the Pines: If you like dramatic movies that take unexpected twists and turns, then this movie is for you. Not to mention uhh, yeah the leading actors (Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper) aren’t too shabby, either! : )
Revenge: This. This show. I’m addicted. Every week there is a new twist or turn. And I can’t wait for the next week to come to see the latest episode. If you are not watching start now!
Army Wives: When I have to stay up at night to fold laundry, play phone games or actually get work done, I always have a show on. I love Netflix for this so that I can watch entire TV series and watch back to back episodes. Some how this month I got sucked into the Lifetime drama Army Wives. Hash tag; just can’t quit
What I’m listening to:
Black and White Years: One ‘fun’ thing we did in January was go to the CD release party for the Black and White Years newest CD “Strange Figurines.” If you are a fan of BAWY this album is defiantly worth checking out, as the album has a bit of a different vibe than past albums.
Valerie June: Have you heard of Valerie June? If not run no speed to Amazon, Spotify, iTunes, or wherever and check her out! She has a unique soulful, raspy voice that I can’t stop listening to.
What I’ve been eating:
Smoothies: I drink at least one smoothie a day. Usually two. I am trying to cram as many fruits and veggies in my body (instead of stuffing in not so good for me cookies and candy) and smoothies are a tasty way to get my greens. I’ve been trying lots of recipes and can’t wait to share them with you all soon!
Jack Allen’s Kitchen: If you are in the Austin area, or just passing through, you have got to check this place out. Go for brunch, happy hour or dinner! They are a true farm to table restaurant (no really, I know some of the farmers that supply the restaurant) and the menu and chef really know how to make Texas food shine. Stay tuned as I’ll be posting an official review soon!
Well that’s it for now!
Now I wanna know… what have you been watching, eating and listening to?
