It feels like summer is quickly slipping through our fingertips. The calendar has turned to August and the first day of school is just around the corner.
However, as long as summer is officially here, we will be embracing it with wide open arms!
This includes throwing a few casual but fun end of summer parties, eating as much farm fresh summer produce as possible and squeezing in a few more lake days… all before the leaves begin to drop, the weather begins to dip, and life gets too crazy with busy school days and holiday celebrations!
One of our favorite summer foods is plump, juicy peaches.
Peaches seem extra special, because unlike other traditional “summer” foods like zucchini, strawberry and watermelon, fresh peaches are only available for a few short, blissful months.
While peaches are delicious all on their own, why not fully celebrate their greatness with Slow Cooker Blueberry Peach Oatmeal, Peach Watermelon Smoothie or these easy Peach Dumplings.
These effortless Peach Dumplings are a summertime variation of our fall forward Country Apple Dumplings, both of which are a semi-homemade twist on a classic southern dessert recipe.
We keep this Peach Dumpling recipe very approachable and even kid-friendly by using store-bought refrigerated crescent dough and other common pantry staples.
The end result is irresistible buttery soft dumplings filled with juicy and fragrant peaches! Top with velvety French vanilla ice cream and you have the dreamiest summer dessert that would be a standout at a Labor Day barbecue or any other end of summer celebration!
Helpful Tips and Information:
Peach Dumplings with Crescent Roll Ingredients and Substitutions:
- Fresh peaches – Fresh peaches are preferred and are recommended for this recipe. We prefer peeling the peaches in this recipe; however, you can leave the skin on to save time. See below for using canned or frozen peaches.
- Refrigerated crescent rolls – You will want to use a good quality, name brand crescent roll. Puffed pastry sheets can be substituted for the crescent rolls.
- Unsalted butter
- Light brown sugar – Dark brown sugar can also be used.
- Vanilla extract
- Ground cinnamon
- Ginger ale or ginger beer – Ginger ale or ginger beer adds a nice tangy, sweet and spicy flavor profile to these peach dumplings. If you like a bolder flavor, use ginger beer. However, for a milder flavor peach nectar, lemon-lime soda or white grape juice can be substituted.
Can I use canned peaches instead of fresh?
Fresh peaches are preferred and are recommended for this recipe. However, frozen peaches (no need to thaw) or 1 (29-ounce) can of sliced peaches packed in juice can be used, just drain well before using. Also keep in mind that canned peaches are already cooked, so they will break down more in the baking process.
How to easily peel peaches:
To peel the fresh peaches easily, simply place peaches in the freezer for about 20 minutes. You don’t want your peaches frozen solid, just firm enough to more easily peel without smashing.
Peach Dumpling Variations:
- Bourbon – For an added layer of flavor, 2 tablespoons of bourbon can be added to the sauce mixture.
- Country Apple Dumplings – For a flavorful fall twist, make our Apple Dumplings with crescent rolls!
What to serve with old fashioned peach dumplings:
Keep things simple and serve these peach dumplings with store bought vanilla ice cream.
Alternatively, you can take these dumplings up a notch and serve them with our homemade Three Ingredient Vanilla Ice Cream or Cinnamon Honey Whipped Cream!

Peach Dumplings
Buttery, flaky dumplings filled with plump, sweet peaches and baked in a sweet caramel sauce.
Ingredients
- 2 large fresh peaches
- 2 (8 count) cans refrigerated crescent rolls
- ½ cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup dark brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1 can (12 ounce) ginger ale or ginger beer*
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9-inch deep dish pie plate or 9×9-inch square pan. Place the pan on a baking sheet. Set aside.
- Peel and slice peaches into eight equal pieces, discarding the pit.
- Separate crescent rolls into 16 triangles.
- Mix ½ cup brown sugar and ½ teaspoon cinnamon in a small bowl and spread sugar mixture evenly over each of the crescent roll.
- Place a slice of peach on the wide bottom part of each crescent dough triangle. Starting at the bottom, roll up the peach slice in the dough, making sure the peach is completely enclosed in dough. Place dumplings in the prepared pan.
- In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in remaining brown sugar, cinnamon and vanilla. Cook, stirring occasionally, until sugar is melted and bubbly. Pour melted sugar mixture over dumplings in the pan.
- Pour soda (or juice, if using) over dumplings.
- Bake in a preheated 350-degree F oven for 30-40 minutes, or until dumplings are golden brown and sauce is bubbly.
- Serve immediately with vanilla ice cream!
